Welcome to the Dentistry Clinical Reference Group space

The dentistry clinical reference group is a derivative of the former dentistry special interest group and is, at this time, serving as the primary source of clinical information and recommendations for dentistry into SNOMED.  Historically, the group has served for all of dentistry and continues to do so if and until there is a desire or need of more specific content recommendation and evalution, likely along the lines of recognized dental specialties.

Members of the Clinical Resource Group represent the payer community in the United States of America, dental associations throughout the western world, general dentists, academicians and periodic input from specialty organizations.  The Dental CRG encourages any interested parties to begin participation in the dentistry group.  Ideas, expert knowledge, and skill sets from all areas of dental practice and supporting the entire dental delivery system is sought out and encouraged.  Increased involvement of member countries not currently involved would be very helpful to increase international understanding and utility.

The CRG is currently involved in developing some key reference sets to assist in developing visualizations and for interoperability.  Additionally, the group feels a strong need to evaluate the current available dental terms and work to make them more accurate, with proper structure to most effectively work within the SNOMED hierarchies.

  2. Hi Jane,

The Danish NRC has had a request from one of our affiliates, Solteq Care. They would like to learn more about the advantages of using SNOMED CT for dentistry.

Is this group still active and would this be the appropriate place to point them to?

    Best wishes,

    Camilla

    1. Hi Camilla Wiberg Danielsen , I'll cc. Mark Jurkovich in here to comment. This group is still active and we have meetings every 2 months. BW, Sarah

    2. Hello Camilla,

Yes, the Dentistry CRG is active.  We would very much look forward to involvement/questions from Solteq Care. We have group members that have assisted in implementation of SNOMED in both electronic records systems and care systems.

We do  have a meeting tomorrow, Wednesday August 16 at 1:30 UTC..  The link is https://Snomed.zoom.us/my/dentistrycrg

We will also have hybrid meetings in Atlanta in October and are on the schedule for the business meetings.

You are welcome to reach out to me personally if I can be of assistance, +1.612.804.4693.  I am in the midwest of the United States, so am 5 or 6 hours behind your time zone.

Further, we have a remarkable member from another Scandinavian country, Norway.  Jorn Andre is the most knowledgeable about SNOMED of all of our CRG members and has done implementations.

I look forward to Danish involvement in our group, should it be of value to you.

  3. Hello Mark,

Thank you so much for your quick response. I will tell our affiliate to reach out to the group.

    Camilla

  4. Hello, It is good to hear that this group is still active. We in Sweden has recently been given a government assignment to do a national investigation for a proposal for riskassessment related to oral health. Mark Jurkovich We would like to know how other countries are practising riskassessment in oral health, if the practice is local or national? If there is such a forum to discuss such issues, me and my colleagues who are specialist in dentistry at the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare would like to participate in this forum.

  5. Hi, I have a question from the project group working on an assignment regarding risk assessment in oral health at the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare. We would like to know how the term "Health" is defined, especially in the context of risk assessment in oral health. What are the cut-offs of when an asessment is taed as "healthy" and when it is not, when it is a "at risk", or "increased risk". Any input on this subject of discussion is highly appreciated.

  6. Hi Keng-Ling Wallin The Dentistry CRG is next meeting (virtually/in-person) during the business meetings in Atlanta on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th of October. Please see schedule here: October 2023 - SNOMED International Business Meetings. cc Mark Jurkovich
