Most SNOMED CT implementations will use some kind of mapping with existing terminologies in particular use cases, for example:

  • To submit statistical reports using classifications, like ICD-10
  • To interact with procedures vocabularies used for billing
  • To use national medication ids in the electronic prescriptions process
  • To allow the user to select terms from a local interface terminology and code with SNOMED CT
  • etc.

SNOMED CT specifies different Cross-mapping patterns for representing maps using Reference Sets in RF2, to make these maps available to implementations and terminology servers.

The tools in this section help the users to create and publish cross maps, applying a revision process and quality assurance rules.

SNOMED International Mapping Tool

The SNOMED CT Mapping Tool is used by the IHTSDO Content Team to manage maps between SNOMED CT and other terminologies including ICD-10, ICD-9CM, ICPC and MedDRA.

The tool can be accessed here - Mapping Tool

User documentation is available here on the SNOMED International Mapping Tool space and the source code can be found in the IHTSDO GitHub repository - https://github.com/IHTSDO/OTF-Mapping-Service

The tools supports the creation of simple maps and complex maps, supports revisions and quality assurance workflows and provides a

public directory and browser for the map content.
