Dear Members,

The Beta release of the January 2019 SNOMED CT® International Edition is now available to SNOMED International Members only, from the MLDS distribution site.

This Beta release provides Member organizations an opportunity to perform a technical evaluation of the core SNOMED CT® files, and to provide feedback to SNOMED International, before the International Edition is distributed to Members by 31st December 2018.  The public release of the International Edition to Affiliate licensees will take place on 31st January 2019.  Please note that this Beta Release should not be distributed to Affiliate Licensees or any third parties before this date.  The BETA release package is distributed for evaluation purposes only. It must not be used in production clinical systems or in clinical settings.

When providing feedback, please include as much detail as possible, incorporating references to, or samples of, specific instances of the issue being reported.  The absence of sufficient information to allow SNOMED International to confirm the reported issue may result in no action being taken prior to the Member release.  Feedback on content related issues will be assessed and prioritized by SNOMED International, and a decision will be made as to whether to address any reported content issues for the Member release or as part of a future International Edition release.  Although all feedback will be carefully reviewed, there should be no expectation that any non-technical issues will be addressed prior to the distribution of the Member release.

Feedback on the Beta release files will be accepted until 23:59 UTC on 14th December 2018 – although SNOMED International Members are urged to submit their findings as early as possible.

All files distributed to SNOMED International Members for the January 2019 International Edition are available from the  “January 2019 v0.1” version in the “Offline & Alpha/Beta versions” section of the “SNOMED CT International Edition” project, which can be found on the “IHTSDO Releases” page in MLDS, accessed here:

          https://mlds.ihtsdotools.org/#/ihtsdoReleases

The SNOMED CT International Edition contains SNOMED CT files in Release Format 2 (RF2) only, distributed in a zipped file archive (the Release Notes are located separately in the same repository as normal):

Dear all,

Following on from all of the previous announcements providing early visibility of the transition plan, SNOMED International would now like to provide technical details of the planned migration from Stated Relationships to OWL files.  This plan has been discussed and agreed with numerous stakeholders from the community, and will be implemented over the course of the next two International Releases, as follows:

January 2019:

  • The International Edition package (packageA) will include both active Stated Relationships plus a partial OWL file containing a subset of the OWLAxioms.  This file will contain both OWLAxiom + OWLOntology refsets combined into one OWLExpression file, in each section of the International Release package (Full, Snapshot and Delta):
    • sct2_sRefset_OWLExpressionFull_INT_20190131.txt
    • sct2_sRefset_OWLExpressionSnapshot_INT_20190131.txt
    • sct2_sRefset_OWLExpressionDelta_INT_20190131.txt
  • We will also publish a separate optional package (packageB) containing a complete set of OWL records (including all Axioms - sufficient, transitivity etc) set to January 2019 effectiveTimes, as if this was the complete OWL file that we will introduce in July 2019.  This package would also contain all stated relationships from the previous release (July 2018 International Edition) marked as inactive.
  • packageB will therefore act as a second Demonstration release (similar to the September 2018 package), allowing everyone to thoroughly trial how the July 2019 Int Edition will work for them in practice.  It will, therefore, retain the same nomenclature and formatting as the Sept 2018 Demo release, with everything x prefixed and labelled to warn against use in Production clinical systems.
  • packageB will be published in MLDS alongside the International Edition, and will therefore be available to everyone who has access to the International Edition, so that they can choose to either download it or not.
  • Release Notes will be updated to clearly explain all of the above.

July 2019:

  • The International Edition package (packageCwill include both inactive Stated Relationships plus a complete OWL file (combined) from July 2019 effectiveTime onwards (ie) with NO history of OWL records that weren’t included in the Jan 2019 International Edition package itself (as opposed to the optional package).
  • We will also publish a separate optional package (packageD) containing an OWL (combined) Delta file, identifying which of the concepts have had modelling changes in relation to packageB.
  • No support for Stated Relationships will be provided from this point onwards, however we will continue to include the inactivated Stated Relationships in future International Edition packages, until it is decided that this is no longer required.
  • Anyone who isn’t yet ready to move forward with OWL will therefore remain on the January 2019 International Edition until they are ready to update to OWL with the July 2019 version onwards.
  • Release Notes will be updated to clearly explain all of the above.

If you have any questions regarding any of these upcoming changes, please contact SNOMED International immediately at support@snomed.org with “OWL transition question” in the subject line.

Thanks very much for your time,

Kind regards

Dear all,

The January 2018 distribution of the General Practitioner/Family Practitioner (GP/FP) SNOMED CT® Reference Sets and SNOMED CT® to ICPC-2 Map package has been updated.  This update supersedes the version originally released on April 16th 2018.

There have been no content updates, with the only change being to the refsetDescriptor file, and so unless you specifically use this file then there is no requirement to use the updated package.  You can continue to use the original package (SnomedCT_GPFPICPC2_PRODUCTION_20180416T120000Z.zip) until the next GP/FP release, which will also include the updated refsetDescriptor file.

If you do wish to use the updated package it is available from the  “January 2018 v1.1” version in the “GP/FP SNOMED CT Refset and SNOMED CT to ICPC2 Map package - SNOMED International” project, which can be found on the “IHTSDO Releases” page in MLDS, accessed here:

https://mlds.ihtsdotools.org/#/ihtsdoReleases

The file name of the updated package is as follows - note the updated date stamp to distinguish this from the original release, as per the new file naming conventions:

  • SnomedCT_GPFPICPC2_PRODUCTION_20180430T120000Z.zip

The Release Notes can be downloaded as distinct pdf files from the same MLDS release version:

  • doc_SnomedCT-GPFP-Production-ReleaseNotes_Current-en-US_INT_20180131.pdf
  • doc_SnomedCT-ICPC2-Production-ReleaseNotes_Current-en-US_INT_20180131.pdf

The Release Notes can also be accessed online from the following pages:

Those Members using MLDS as their distribution site will find that their affiliates have access to the new release automatically.
