5.5. Partition Identifier

The penultimate two-digits of the SCTID (data type) (second and third from the right), are the partition-identifier.

The partition-identifierindicates the nature of the component identified. This allows the Identifierof a Descriptionto be distinguished from the Identifierof a Concept.

The partition-identifieralso indicates whether the SCTIDcontains a namespace-identifier( long format) or follows the short format applicable to Identifiersof componentsthat originated in the International Release. Identifiersof componentsthat originated in the International Releaseof SNOMED CThave one of the following partition-identifiervalues:

All other partition-identifiervalues are reserved for future use.
