Rules for description generation:

  1. Remove the semantic tag, e.g. (body structure)
  2. Remove 'Structure of' from [body structure] if term starts with 'Structure of'   e.g. 709530002|Structure of phalanx of hand (body structure)|
  3. Remove 'structure' from [body structure] if term contains 'structure', e.g. 69536005|Head structure (body structure)|   24097009|Bone structure of hand (body structure)|
  4. If method = CT - action, descriptions should be CT or Computed tomography; if method = MRI -action, descriptions should be MRI or Magnetic resonance imaging

  1. Jim CaseYongsheng Gao Paul Amos-based on discussion Aug. 17th, is this template correct?

  2. Based on our discussion today, I would say it would depend though on the purpose of the implant.  Most implantation procedure concepts are currently (inconsistently) modeled as PROCEDURE SITE - INDIRECT, but I that may be because of the current guidance.  Implantation of devices that act directly on an anatomical structure such as Implantation of joint prosthesis, to me would reasonably have a PROCEDURE SITE - DIRECT and a DIRECT DEVICE, but currently most are modeled with PROCEDURE SITE - INDIRECT.  Interestingly, Heart arterial implants are modeled with PROCEDURE SITE - DIRECT, but heart valve implants are modeled with PROCEDURE SITE - INDIRECT.

We currently have a subhierarchy of 278854009 |Insertion of hormone implant (procedure)|, which is a subtype of Implantation procedure, but I think that is probably not correct and they do not generally have a procedure site.  Then there are some concepts such as 19784002 |Implant of mechanical kidney (procedure)|, which would be properly modeled with PROCEDURE SITE - INDIRECT, or 38443001 |Vaginal implantation of radium (procedure)|, which would also have a PROCEDURE SITE - INDIRECT.
