Hi Bruce Goldberg the RMDs is defined as a family of muscular conditions that result from repeated motions performed in the course of normal work or daily activities. https://www.ninds.nih.gov/Disorders/All-Disorders/Repetitive-Motion-Disorders-Information-Page. A number of conditions have been mentioned in this document, however, these conditions can also be caused by other reasons. Repeated motions could be one contributing factor. How should we apply this template?
Bruce Goldberg
Hi Yongsheng Gao. I think we should apply this template only to 4308002 |Repetitive strain injury (disorder)| (needs to be remodeled and renamed) and its descendants. At KP, I think we have more to donate. For other conditions that are due to RMDs, a parent or due to relationship to RMD may need to be added as appropriate.

Hi Bruce Goldberg, I have updated the model and descriptions. Could you please update the template if it is different to yours?
Bruce Goldberg
Hi Yongsheng Gao. The model should not include a morphology of 308497004 |Strain - lesion (morphologic abnormality)|. I deleted the row with this relationship.

The FSN should also be Repetitive motion disorder of [body structure] due to [repetitive routines] (disorder). These are not really strain injuries. It sounds redundant but if we want to include subtypes of repetitive routines in the modeI then it seems necessary. I did not add overuse injury or overuse syndrome as descriptions in my modeling of this hierarchy but I can go back and add them.

Hi Bruce Goldberg, I do not have a strong view on synonyms. Repetitive motion disorder seems to be a grouper concept that is intended to capture any conditions that are caused by repetitive motion.
Should the condition, such as carpal tunnel syndrome be classified under repetitive motion disorder? The conditions such as bursitis, tendonitis, epicondylitis, ganglion cyst, tenosynovitis, are often caused by repetitive motion but they could also be caused by other reasons. I think they can be classified under repetitive motion disorder if the cause of repetitive motion is specified in the model and FSNs.
Repetitive motion disorders are characterized by pain, tingling, numbness, visible swelling or redness of the affected area, and the loss of flexibility and strength. Inflammation seems to be one of the underlying causes of the symptoms. Pain is just one characteristic which might not always present. Is it necessary to have "pain" as its parent?
Should this condition be considered as a complication since we have the due to clinical finding in the modeling?
