These Certification Rules apply to anyone who participates in a SNOMED International certification exam (referred to below as the 'candidate'). These rules form part of the Terms and Conditions that must be accepted prior to enrolling in a certification exam.

General Rules

The following general rules apply to all SNOMED International certification exams:

General Rules

The Certification rules should be entered into in good faith and will be considered accepted by anyone who takes the Certification Exam.

11) Make sure your current network connection is stable during the entire exam process. If you experience any loss of connectivity during the exam

  • The exam will end automatically.
  • The exam timer will not stop during periods of lost connectivity.
  • Log back into the exam as soon as possible and complete within the original time allocated.
  • After the exam please email us at elearning@snomed.org if you experienced connectivity issues during the exam.

The Education Team will then determine the cause of the connection issues and inform the individual on the next steps.

13) You will be required to confirm your willingness to abide by the Authoring Platform Terms of Usage prior to being given access to the authoring platform and during the period you have access. 

14) Exam participants will not be given any feedback on exam results apart from a pass or fail.

Proctored Imposed Restrictions

  • During the exam the following will be restricted: 
    • You will not be able to right click in the exam.
    • You will not be able to print the exam. You will not be able to download or save any external files.
    • You must remain in view of the camera at all times.
    • Once your exam is submitted, the browser cache will be cleared of all exam data.
    • Attempts to save or inspect webpage metadata are prohibited during the exam and will cause the quiz to close.
  • Data Monitoring During Exam

The following information will be collected during the duration of the exam:

    • Your microphone
    • Your webcam
    • Your physical location
    • Your identity
    • Your clipboard
    • Your mouse location
    • Your browser size
    • Your browser tabs and windows
    • Your head movements
    • Your eye movements
    • Your mouth movements
    • Your entire screen
    • Any website you visit
    • Any other applications running
    • Number of display screens connected

Also SNOMED International has access to audit logs of tasks performed on the Training Authoring Platform and can monitor the time at which these tasks were undertaken.

SNOMED International Conditions

We take any attempt to breach our certification rules very seriously.

If you think you may have inadvertently breached a rule then it is best to contact the Education Team elearning@snomed.org 

SNOMED International reserves the right to use any exam monitoring data to check adherence the the Certification Rules and identify any breaches.

The SNOMED International reserves the right to

  • remove certification from any individuals 
  • prevent any individual from any further involvement in SNOMED International courses or certifications

if individuals are found to be in breach of any of the above rules.

SNOMED International decision on breaches will be final and binding in terms of SNOMED Certifications and Courses.

SNOMED International will take action against any individual who falsely declares they are Certified.

SNOMED International reserves the right to make changes to the above rules without notification.

It is the responsibility of any individual to look at the most up-to-date rules before taking the Certification Exam.

Exam Retakes
It is strongly recommended that an individual self-evaluates their abilities to meet the Certification Competencies  

Each individual has the right to resit the exam once if they fail.

  • Resitting the exam will involve re-enrolment and a further payment

If an individual fails the Certification exam twice, then they have 2 options

  • Enrol (Re-enrol) in the appropriate Authoring Course and resitting the Certification Exam after successful completion of that course
  • Wait for a year before re-enroling on the Certification Exam

  2. If a candidate fails a certification exam, they may re-enrol in the certification exam. Full payment is required for re-enrolment.

  3. SNOMED International reserves the right to make changes to these rules without notification. It is the candidate's responsibility to check the current certification rules prior to taking a certification exam.

Authoring Certification Rules

The following rules apply specifically to the SNOMED International authoring level 1 and authoring level 2 certification exams:

  1. Prior to accessing the SNOMED International training authoring platform, all participants must accept the Authoring Platform Terms of Usage. These terms of usage stay in effect during any period in which access is granted.
  2. The following reference materials are permitted for use during all of the exam:
    • Any internet search sites for understanding a concept's clinical meaning including medical dictionaries
    • Personal notes and course material
    • SNOMED International Browser
    • SNOMED International Training Authoring Platform
    • SNOMED International Guides
    • SNOMED International Confluence Pages
    • SNOMED International Jira Pages
  3. Please be aware that we do not provide individual exam results or feedback whether or not the exam has been passed.
  4. If a candidate fails a certification exam, they may re-enrol in the certification exam at most once within 12 months of completing their first attempt.
  5. If a candidate fails a certification exam twice within 12 months, then prior to re-enrolling in the certification exam they must either (a) enrol (or re-enrol) in the relevant SNOMED International preparation course and successfully complete this course, or (b) wait a further 12 months after their most recent attempt before re-enrolling in the certification exam.

Terminology Services Certification Rules

The following rules apply specifically to the SNOMED International Terminology Services certification exam:

  1. Students must answer each question using the terminology service API that is requested by the given question - i.e. either the Snowstorm API or the Snowstorm FHIR API. 
  2. Students must use the base URLs provided in the exam to access each terminology service API.
  3. The following tools are permitted during the exam:
    • Swagger (for the Snowstorm API)
    • Postman (for the Snowstorm FHIR API)
    • SNOMED International browser (not to be used in place of the required API calls)
    • Text editor (Notepad, TextEdit, or similar)
  4. The following reference materials are permitted for use during the exam:
    • Personal notes and course material
    • SNOMED International Guides and Confluence Pages

Violations

SNOMED International takes any attempt to violate these certification rules very seriously. SNOMED International may use exam monitoring data to check adherence to these Certification Rules. SNOMED International may refuse to certify any candidate who is found to have violated these certification rules. SNOMED International may refuse to accept future enrolments by any individual who has previously violated these rules. SNOMED International reserves the right to determine if a candidate has violated these rules, and this determination is at the sole discretion of SNOMED International.
