Award for Excellence

SNOMED International's Award of Excellence is awarded to a single recipient each year. It is given for outstanding contributions to the improvement of SNOMED CT and/or its successful implementation in any aspect of health and social care. Prior winners have been:

  • 2011: Ian Green, UK
  • 2012: Dion McMurtrie, Australia
  • 2013: Kristina Brand Persson, Sweden
  • 2014: Judith Warren, USA
  • 2015: Jim Case, USA
  • 2016:   Daniel Karlsson, Sweden
  • 2017: Betsy Humphreys, USA & Bruce Goldberg: Bruce Goldberg, USA
  • 2018: Michael Lawley, Australia
  • 2019: Mark Jurkovich, USA
  • 2022: Ajelandro Mauro, Chile and Vicky Fung, Hong Kong, China
  • 2023: Pim Volkert, Netherlands and Scott W. Campbell, USA

Individuals must be nominated by two people, at least one of whom must be a member of the Community of Practice (defined here as someone who is not a SNOMED International employee).

The deadline for nominations is 30 June1 March.

Lifetime Achievement Award

SNOMED International’s) Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals for sustained, outstanding contributions in the development or promotion of SNOMED CT and for global leadership in the terminology field.  Prior Award winners have been:

If you would like to nominate a person to receive the award, please complete the attached nomination form and send it to SNOMED International at info@snomedat governance@snomed.org. Please note that individuals must be nominated by two people, at least one of whom must be a member of the Community of Practice (defined in this context as someone who is not a SNOMED International employee).
