Expression constraints have been used in projects and programs around the world for a number of years – for example HL7 TermInfo, and the NHS Logical Record Architecture.

In July 2022, version 2.1 was published to allow description filters to filter results using description identifiers, and to harmonise the dialect alias filter (see Appendix C) with BCP-47 (Internet Best Current Practice Specification).
