| Sensory perception is a function that endows a person with the capacity to detect internal and external stimuli via sensory transducer structures in the body and transmit this information to the brain (sensory function), then cognitively represent, organize, and interpret this information (perception function). | Audition, All | | Auditory function (observable entity) | | An auditory function is a function that endows a person with the capacity to process sound stimuli (a class of energy capable of being detected by human auditory sensory receptors). The processes realized by the auditory function include a) transduction of sound stimuli into neural signals, b) transmission of transduced signals to the brain, c) processing of transduced signals along the entire transmission pathway, d) generation of a mental representation of the objective stimulus from the signals received by (and sometimes natively generated within) the brain, and e) the phenomenological experience of hearing.
