Dear ELAG members,

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the practical exercise we created for data analysts. We have now made this exercise available to all SNOMED CT E-Learning users.

SNOMED International has just announced the call for Advisory Group experts. As part of this process, the E-Learning Advisory Group is seeking applications for one Expert Advisor position (previously held by Supten). Kirstine will be continuing in her position as ELAG Expert Advisor until 2019. We would like to sincerely thank Supten for his contributions to the E-Learning Advisory Group over the past 3 years!

If you know of any suitable candidates for this position, please forward this announcement to them: Call for Advisory Group Nominations.

Please note applications close on Friday June 15th 2018.

The Consultant Terminologist Program has been undergoing a review for the past year, with both internal and external input. As part of that review, there have been many contributions to both identifying where changes could be made and also the benefits found from participating. To those that contributed, we thank you for your input!

We have concluded our evaluation and can now advise that the Consultant Terminologist Program will no longer be offered in the same format. Students who are currently enrolled will be able to complete the program and become certified. However, SNOMED International will not be accepting new students into the program. For prior participants needing to re-certify in 2018, the period of certification will extend for 12 months.

SNOMED International’s redesign of the terminologist education program will include the following elements:

  • Recertification will continue to be available for those currently certified. However in 2019 a new recertification process will be rolled out. While the full details have not been finalized, we will ensure that the Consultant Community of Practice is advised of the new process with sufficient time to meet the requirements.
  • As part of these changes, SNOMED International's terminologist education will reside entirely with the Education and Product Support team and will transition out of other areas such as Content and Mapping.
  • The Content Development Theory Course and the Consultant Terminologist Program will be redesigned into a streamlined, multi-level terminology authoring program. This program will start with a Level 1 Terminology Authoring Course, which will combine content development theory with a 'hands-on' authoring component using a training version of our terminology authoring platform. The Level 1 pilot is due to commence in September 2018.
  • Building on this, an advanced Level 2 Terminology Authoring Course will be piloted in late 2019. This online course will also include a hands-on component. We anticipate that this course will supersede the current Consultant Program. Further details of this course will be made available at a later date.

Dear ELAG members,

Thanks very much to the 5 Members who have offered to share links to their SNOMED education resources. If any additional Members would like to contribute to this page, please email the relevant URI links to lbi@snomed.org. Dear ELAG members,

Thanks very much to everyone who was able to attend the recent meeting in Bratislava (either in person or by phone). It was wonderful to see so many of you there!

A couple of followups from the meeting. Firstly, if you've looked at the SNOMED CT E-Learning Server (http://snomed.org/elearning) since the meeting, you may have noticed that we've added a new menu at the top of the page. Hopefully this will make it easier for people to find available courses. For example, the Starter Presentations, Open Access and SNOMED for Developers can be found in the 'Open Courses' menu, the English and Chinese versions can be found in the 'Foundation Course' menu, and the Implementation and Content Development courses can be found in the 'Advanced Courses' menu. We've also included a way of contacting the E-Learning team with questions.

Secondly, for those of you who would like to encourage software developers in your country to participate in the pilot of the 'SNOMED CT for Developers' pathway, we have added a 'Feedback Form' to the bottom of the pilot course summary. However, it would be a great help to us if Member representatives could consolidate feedback from their region, and send this consolidated feedback to us. Please note that (once logged in) pilot participants can register for the pilot my selecting "SNOMED for Developers" from the "Open Courses" menu at the top of the screen, and then clicking on "Enrol me". This will give then immediate access to all the material in the Developers learning pathway.

Finally, thank you to those Members who have already sent me links to their national SNOMED education resources. If you would be happy to share any national SNOMED education resources with others, please email the relevant URI link to me at lbi@snomed.org. We hope to make the 'Member Education Resources' area available shortly via the E-Learning menu.

Thank you!
Kind regards,
Linda.
