The Certification rules should be entered into in good faith and will be considered accepted by anyone who takes the Certification Exam.

1) Any form of copying, downloading, printing, sharing or distributing the SNOMED International Certification Exam is not permitted.

2) It is forbidden to obtain or attempt to obtain access to the examination prior to the start of the examination.

3) It is forbidden to use in an examination any crib sheets, revision or other notes apart from references material that are allowed in the exam.

4) No other individual should be present in the room in which the exam is being performed.

5) No one should communicate with the individual during the exam.

6) Mobile phones and other electronic devices (apart from the computer being used) should be turned off during the exam.

7) The individual must remain in view of the camera at all times and not move from the seat or bend down during exam.

8) Only one monitor can be used during the exam and this should be the monitor with the webcam. 

9) Any rule modification required by an individual requires prior approval by SNOMED International. 

Making false declarations in an attempt to obtain modified assessment provisions or special consideration (e.g. of extenuating circumstances) would be in breach of the Certification rules. 

10) Being party to any arrangement whereby a person other than the candidate fraudulently represents, or intends to represent, the candidate in an examination will be deemed as breach of the exam rules.

11) Make sure your current network connection is stable during the entire exam process. If you experience any loss of connectivity during the exam

  • The exam will end automatically.
  • The exam timer will not stop during periods of lost connectivity.
  • Log back into the exam as soon as possible and complete within the original time allocated.
  • After the exam please email us at elearning@snomed.org if you experienced connectivity issues during the exam.

The Education Team will then determine the cause of the connection issues and inform the individual on the next steps.

13) You will be required to confirm your willingness to abide by the Authoring Platform Terms of Usage prior to being given access to the authoring platform and during the period you have access. 

14) The following are allowed reference material during the exam

  • Any internet search sites for understanding a concepts clinical meaning
  • SNOMED International Browser
  • SNOMED International Training Authoring Platform
  • SNOMED International Editorial Guide
  • SNOMED International Confluence Pages

15) Certification lasts 3 years after which the Certification exam will need to be retaken and passed.

Proctored Imposed Restrictions

During the exam the following will be restricted: 

  • You will not be able to right click in the exam.
  • You will not be able to print the exam.
  • You will not be able to download or save any external files.
  • You must remain in view of the camera at all times.
  • Once your exam is submitted, the browser cache will be cleared of all exam data.
  • Attempts to save or inspect webpage data are prohibited during the exam and will cause the quiz to close.

Data Monitoring During Exam

The following information will be collected during the duration of the exam:

  • Your microphone
  • Your webcam
  • Your physical location
  • Your identity
  • Your clipboard
  • Your mouse location
  • Your browser size
  • Your browser tabs and windows
  • Your head movements
  • Your eye movements
  • Your mouth movements
  • Your entire screen
  • Any website you visit
  • Any other applications running
  • Number of display screens connected

Also SNOMED International has access to audit logs of tasks performed on the Training Authoring Platform and can monitor at what time these tasks were undertaken.

SNOMED International Conditions

We take any attempt to breach our certification rules very seriously.

If you think you may have inadvertently breached a rule then it is best to contact the Education Team elearning@snomed.org 

SNOMED International reserve the right to use any exam monitoring data to check adherence the the Certification Rules and identify any breaches.

The SNOMED International reserve the right to

  • remove certification from any individuals 
  • prevent any individual from any further involvement in SNOMED International courses or certifications

if individuals are found to be in breach of any of the above rules. 

SNOMED International decision on breaches will be final and binding in terms of SNOMED Certifications and Courses.

SNOMED International will take action against any individual who falsely declares they are Certified.

SNOMED International reserve the right to make changes to the above rules without notification.

It is the responsibility of any individual to look at the most up to date rules before taking the Certification Exam.
