Slack, https://snomedintl.slack.com/, is the new online, collaborative team chat application for SNOMED International. It is very similar to the previous tool used by the organization, Rocket Chat, but is provided as a cloud service.
After using Rocket Chat for over a year, we have come to realize that considering the priorities of the organization, the overhead for managing this service outweighs the benefit of having a service in-house. Slack is probably the most mature chat platform available and has been around for a number of years. It meets all of our requirements and more, as well as removing the infrastructure management overhead.
This service will replace our current use of SnoChat. If you are currently using SnoChat, then Slack will be the tool you use going forward and the way it works will be very familiar.
