1Approve work-plan for IHTSDO-455
  • IHTSDO-455 addresses removal organism life-cycle stages from the organisms hierarchy. A subsidiary goal is to create a naming convention for organism subtypes that specifically name a life-cycle stage in which the organism is "participating" (most often describes the organism "as identified" by a laboratory).
  •
2Terms

Review and discuss the naming convention(s) for these organism subtypes. In particular:

  • Selection of preferred terms. The simple answer is to "prefer" the term that is identical to the FSN but without the hierarchy designator. Sometimes this term "sounds right" sometimes it does not.
  • Naming Cestode larval forms - Cysticercus bovis is the larval form of Taenia saginata. SNOMED currently has both Cysticercus (concepts that have no consistent relationship to the Adult organisms) AND concepts like "Larval form of Taenia x" that duplicate the Cysticerus concepts. I'm proposing that Cysticercus bovis be a synonym for Larva of Taenia saginata. It could just as well be the other way around.

3Attribute values

It is my intention that we not to create a values hierarchy for concept classes that are ONLY be life-cycle stages.

  • Actual life-cycle stage (not form) concepts might be useful if the organism hierarchy had a reliable logical model but it does not.
  • I cannot think of a use case OUTSIDE of autoclassification within SCT.
