This chapter presents the content within SNOMED CT that may be used to support the described use cases. This may include:
- A presentation of the specific hierarchies, subherarchies, or queries (ecl's,with details in appendix) that are relevant for the scope of this project.
- A summary of editorial approach taken in the modeling of this content, which may support the clinicians understanding of the concepts.
- An introduction to the concept model applicable for the concepts of interest - especially if the concept model is central for the solution proposed in this guide. Detailed information about the concept model should be documented in an appendix and links to the source Editorial Guide should be provided.
- A description of relevant terming guidelines.
For all of the above, examples should be included.
Please note that the title of this section may be updated to be more descriptive in relation to the scope of this project (e.g. "Allergy Content in SNOMED CT", or "Epilepsy Content in SNOMED CT" .
Notes on target audience for this chapter:
- This section is relevant for the clinical audience who seeks to understand how SNOMED CT, from a pure content perspective, supports the described use cases.
- Information managers involved with the development of subsets or queries to be used within an implementation are also key stakeholders for this section.

SNOMED CT concept model
The SNOMED CT concept model for allergy-related conditions has undergone significant changes (see Appendix B: Historical SNOMED CT content perspective for the history of changes). Currently, SNOMED allergy content is organized under the umbrella of hypersensitivity, which is defined by the World Allergy Organization (WAO) as “objectively reproducible symptoms or signs initiated by exposure to a defined stimulus at a dose tolerated by normal persons”.

Allergic Conditions
Allergic conditions are defined as kinds of hypersensitivity diseases, propensities, and reactions with an immunologic basis and are modeled with a pathologic process of the Allergic process (qualifier value) hierarchy. Allergic process (qualifier value) is a child of both the Hypersensitivity process (qualifier value) and Abnormal immune process (qualifier value), and thus allergic diseases and reactions, unlike their non-allergic counterparts, will classify under both Hypersensitivity condition (finding) and Disorder of immune function.

Intolerance
Intolerance (to a substance) is a propensity to an adverse reaction, which is not an allergy or a non-allergic hypersensitivity, and may be idiosyncratic and/or individually specific (as noted in FHIR® Release 4).
