What is Classification?

Within the AP, running classification allows a user to infer relationships from those that are stated within a concept.

Helpful Notes On Classification

Working in the same project

The classification results of your concept are all related to any concepts that you have changed - as well as - any concepts those that other authors have changed and have NOT saved classification results against . It’s cumulative
If an Author does not accept the save results of classification before promoting, then authors on subsequently created concepts which are brought into your task by rebasing from the project. The impact is cumulative.

If a promoted task contains unsaved classification results, then other authors, after rebasing from the project, when classifying their task will see the classification results that were not accepted in the promoted concept, upon running classificationtask, in addition to their own.

So if you save your classification results before promoting you should see only your results, if you do not save your results before promoting you will risk other Authors seeing your unsaved results in their view.

Best practice -classify therefore, is to classify, and save your classification results, before review and promotion

Types of newly added inferred relationships:

  1.  Relationships that are identical to the stated ones and
  2. Relationships that are calculated by the reasoner but were not explicitly stated by the author.

Both types are (and should remain) present in the first tab of the classification report as it contains all classification results. The "inferred not previously stated" tab should only display the second type.

What do the colors of the Classification status mean?

Red - Report contains equivalency errors

Grey - Classification is currently running

Amber - Classification report contains redundant stated relationships

Green - Classification report is complete.

What are the four tabs in the Classification Report?

  • Classification Results: it lists the inferred relationships of each concept in a task.
  • Redundant Relationships: it lists the stated relationships can be removed by transitive reduction process.
  • Inferred Not Previously Stated: it lists inferred relationship changes of a concept of which the stated form was not changed.
  • Equivalency Errors: it lists equivalent concepts.
