Within the SNOMED International environment, there are a number of components which are necessary to be installed. Unfortunately, some of these are not open source software, but they are available to be run as trial software and very reasonable pricing.

Atlassian Crowd

Atlassian crowd enables the management of "users from multiple directories - Active Directory, LDAP, Crowd - via a single admin console and control application permissions from the same place." It is the directory which is used by both Atlassian JIRA and Confluence. This has provided the organization with a mechanism to provide a single account to users which works across all of the tools we use, including JIRA and Confluence.

A 30 day trial period is available and the software can be downloaded from here - https://www.atlassian.com/software/crowd/download.

Atlassian JIRA

JIRA originated as an issue tracker, but has grown into very powerful tool used widely across the IT industry. SNOMED International started using JIRA to track software development projects, but it became clear that it would serve as an ideal platform to provide workflow and task management for the authoring and content request tools.

Only the minimum package, JIRA Core, is needed for the environment. A 30 trial period version is also available and can be downloaded from here - https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/core/download

A key difference in the setup is to install this after Crowd and to then within the user directory settings, point the JIRA instance to use Crowd for user accounts.
