Dear all,

The Production release of the January 2023 SNOMED CT® International Edition is now available to all users, from the MLDS distribution site.

All files distributed for the January 2023 International Edition are available from the "January 2023 v1.0" version in the "SNOMED CT International Edition" project, which can be found on the "SNOMED Releases" page in MLDS, accessed here:

The SNOMED CT International Edition contains SNOMED CT files in Release Format 2 (RF2) only, distributed in a zipped file archive:

  • SnomedCT_InternationalRF2_PRODUCTION_20230131T120000Z.zip

The Release Notes ("doc_SnomedCTReleaseNotes_Current-en-US_INT_20230131.pdf") can be downloaded as distinct files from the same MLDS release version, or accessed online:

Those Members using MLDS as their distribution site will find that their affiliates have access to the new release automatically.

All vendors and affiliates should please contact their National Release Centre (NRC) for information on when the latest release package will be available for download from the NRC website. Contact details for all NRC's can be found here - http://www.snomed.org/members/

Please refresh your memory of all major changes to this upcoming release, as published on the Early Visibility page here: https://confluence.ihtsdotools.org/display/RMT/2023+Early+Visibility+Release+Notifications, and in the Release Notes (where changes to the final Production package made throughout the Release cycle are logged).

If you have any questions about the January 2023 International Edition release, or have difficulties downloading the files from the distribution site, please contact SNOMED International at support@snomed.org with "January 2023 International Edition release question" in the subject line.

Dear all

An opportunity has been identified to modify the Release schedule for the SNOMED CT International Edition package.  Currently the monthly Release is published on the final day of the month, which is not ideal as this date changes every month.  The current process has also caused some issues with certain extension releases when concepts are promoted to the International Edition before they are officially published. This introduced duplicates into Extensions as the concepts were published on the same date.  There is no way to extend the automated validation to cover this scenario, as the two packages are completely distinct, due to the relevant Extension releases being dependent on International Edition packages from before the invalid promotion occurred.

This can be mitigated to a large extent by moving the release date to the 1st of each month, as there are far fewer Extension releases that are published on the 1st than on the last day of the month.  In addition, this new approach standardises the effectiveTimes and package naming conventions to be the 1st of each month instead of 28th/30th/31st.

The proposed plan is to transition to this new process in Q3 of 2023, however we will keep you informed of any changes to this schedule as the year progresses.

When the transition occurs, we will not publish two monthly releases on subsequent days - so for example we would not publish the July 2023 release on 31st July and then move to the first of the month schedule on the 1st August, as there would be no useful changes to publish. Instead, we would publish the July 2023 release on 31st July and then move the August 2023 release to the 1st September.

If you have any concerns or questions on these proposed changes, please let us know on release@snomed.org, or by responding to this message directly.

Kind regards,

Dear all,

The December 2022 Alpha release of the EDQM (European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare) Dose Forms to SNOMED CT Map package is now available from the MLDS distribution site.

The ALPHA release package is distributed for evaluation purposes only. It must not be used in production clinical systems or in clinical settings, or distributed to Affiliate Licensees or any third parties at this time.

This Alpha release provides organizations an opportunity to perform a thorough evaluation of the EDQM Dose Forms to SNOMED CT Map package, and to provide feedback to SNOMED International.

This release is dependent upon, and should therefore be evaluated in the context of the December 2022 SNOMED CT International Edition.

All files distributed for the December 2022 Alpha release are available from the “December 2022 ALPHA Release v0.1” version in the “Offline & Alpha versions” section of the “EDQM Dose Forms to SNOMED CT Map package” project, which can be found on the “SNOMED Releases” page in MLDS, accessed here (please ensure that you login to MLDS first):

The SNOMED CT Alpha release is distributed in a zipped archive file in the official RF2 format as follows (the Release Notes are located separately in the same repository as normal):

  • xSnomedCT_SNOMEDEDQMMapPackage_ALPHA_20230104T120000Z.zip

The SNOMED CT Alpha Release Notes and User Guide can also be accessed online:

If you do not have access to MLDS, but are interested in participating in the Alpha test/review of the maps between EDQM and SNOMED CT, please request the Alpha release package by contacting the Release Management Team by email (info@snomed.org), with the subject "Release Management Team - EDQM Dose Forms to SNOMED CT Map package December 2022 ALPHA release access request".

Feedback on either the map package, or either of the supporting documents should be sent to info@snomed.org.

Feedback should be sent as soon as possible, but no later than the 17th February 2023.

When providing feedback, please include as much detail as possible, incorporating references to, or samples of, specific instances of the issue being reported.  The absence of sufficient information to allow SNOMED International to confirm the reported issue may result in no action being taken prior to the Production release.  Feedback on content related issues will be assessed and prioritized by SNOMED International, and a decision will be made as to whether to address any reported content issues for the Production release or as part of a future release.

If you have any questions about the December 2022 Alpha release, or have difficulties downloading this file, please contact SNOMED International at support@snomed.org with “December 2022 EDQM Dose Forms to SNOMED CT Map package Alpha release question” in the subject line.
