Dear all,

The Production release of the January 2021 SNOMED CT® International Edition is now available to all users, from the MLDS distribution site.

All files distributed for the January 2021 International Edition are available from the “January 2021 - v1.0” version in the “SNOMED CT International Edition” project, which can be found on the “SNOMED Releases” page in MLDS, accessed here:

The SNOMED CT International Edition contains SNOMED CT files in Release Format 2 (RF2) only, distributed in a zipped file archive:

  • SnomedCT_InternationalRF2_PRODUCTION_20210131T120000Z.zip

The Release Notes ("doc_SnomedCTReleaseNotes_Current-en-US_INT_20210131.pdf”) can be downloaded as distinct files from the same MLDS release version, or accessed online:

Those Members using MLDS as their distribution site will find that their affiliates have access to the new release automatically.

All vendors and affiliates should please contact their National Release Centre (NRC) for information on when the latest release package will be available for download from the NRC website. Contact details for all NRC's can be found here - http://www.snomed.org/members/.

Please refresh your memory of all major changes to this upcoming release, as published on the Early Visibility page here: https://confluence.ihtsdotools.org/display/RMT/January+2021+Early+Visibility+Release+Notice+-+Planned+changes+to+upcoming+SNOMED+International+Release+packages, and in the Release Notes in sections "Technical updates" and "Resolved Issues" (where all changes to the final Production package made throughout the Beta and Member Release cycles are logged).  The SNOMED International Release announcement on the website also contains the highlights of the Release here:  https://www.snomed.org/news-and-events/articles/Jan-31-2021-SNOMED-Intl-Edition

NOTE:  New COVID-19 Vaccines content was added to the January 2021 release content after the Member release on 31st December 2020.  This is therefore included in this final, Public release of the January 2021 International Edition.  The Member Release should therefore be considered obsolete and should not be used for anything but test purposes.  As always, the final Production Release should be used in all systems.

The reason for the changes was as communicated, in order to include important COVID-19 Vaccines content in the January 2021 International Edition that wasn't available until January 2021 itself.  Please see sections 2.1 + 2.2 of the Release Notes (linked above) for full details of these changes.

If you have any questions about the January 2021 International Edition or have difficulties downloading the files from the distribution site, please contact SNOMED International at support@snomed.org with “January 2021 International Edition release question” in the subject line.

Kind regards,

Andrew Atkinson  |  Release Manager
