Blog

Dear SNOMED CT and MedDRA users,

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Alpha test/review of the maps between SNOMED CT and MedDRA. We realise that times are difficult during the COVID-19 pandemic and hope you and your loved ones are keeping well.

The April 2020 Alpha release of the SNOMED CT MedDRA Simple Map package is now available from the MLDS distribution site.

The ALPHA release package is distributed for evaluation purposes only. It must not be used in production clinical systems or in clinical settings, or distributed to Affiliate Licensees or any third parties at this time.

This Alpha release provides organizations an opportunity to perform a thorough evaluation of the SNOMED CT MedDRA Simple Map package, and to provide feedback to SNOMED International.

This release is dependent upon, and should therefore be evaluated in the context of the January 2019 SNOMED CT International Edition.

All files distributed for the April 2020 Alpha release are available from the “April 2020 ALPHA Release v0.1” version in the “Offline & Alpha/Beta versions” section of the “SNOMED CT MedDRA Simple Map package” project, which can be found on the “SNOMED Releases” page in MLDS, accessed here (please ensure that you login to MLDS first):

The SNOMED CT Alpha release is distributed in a zipped archive file in the official RF2 format as follows (the Release Notes are located separately in the same repository as normal):

  • xSnomedCT_SNOMEDMedDRAMapPackage_ALPHA_20200401T120000Z.zip

The SNOMED CT Alpha Release Notes can also be accessed online:

If you do not have access to MLDS, please request the Alpha release package by contacting the Release Management Team by email (info@snomed.org), with the subject "Release Management Team - SNOMED CT MedDRA Simple Map package April 2020 ALPHA release access request".

SNOMED International and ICH/MedDRA MSSO, together with regulatory and industry partners, developed the SNOMED CT to MedDRA and MedDRA to SNOMED CT maps as part of the WEB-RADR 2 project, funded by the EU’s Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI). The maps represent new products for both organisations’ user communities and wider stakeholder groups and, therefore, SNOMED International is actively seeking feedback during the Alpha review period on the quality of the maps, both from a content and technical aspect, as well as feedback on specific use cases.

Feedback should be sent jointly to info@snomed.org and mssohelp@meddra.org. The Test/Review protocol document (https://confluence.ihtsdotools.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=106701647) provides guidance on the type of feedback the two parties would like to receive. In addition, the Mapping Conventions document (https://confluence.ihtsdotools.org/display/RMT/SNOMED+CT+MedDRA+Simple+Map+package+ALPHA+Mapping+Conventions+-+April+2020) should form part of the feedback.

Feedback should be sent as soon as possible, but no later than the 30th September 2020.

Please download and use the following form to provide feedback to both parties:

When providing feedback, please include as much detail as possible, incorporating references to, or samples of, specific instances of the issue being reported.  The absence of sufficient information to allow SNOMED International to confirm the reported issue may result in no action being taken prior to the Production release.  Feedback on content related issues will be assessed and prioritized by SNOMED International, and a decision will be made as to whether to address any reported content issues for the Production release or as part of a future release.

If you have any questions about the April 2020 Alpha release, or have difficulties downloading this file, please contact SNOMED International at support@snomed.org with “April 2020 SNOMED CT MedDRA Simple Map package Alpha release question” in the subject line.

Kind regards,

Andrew Atkinson  |  Release Manager
