Description

The organism concept class 115329001 | Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus can be interpreted in at least three ways:

  1. A microbiology laboratory finding associated with an isolate in a patient. "A Staphylococcus aureus was determined to be resistant to Methicillin by laboratory testing".
  2. Methicillin resistance (e.g. via mecA gene expression) means that the Staphylococcus aureus will be resistant to most of the penicillin class.
  3. For epidemiological purposes, methicillin resistant organisms are (automatically) classified as  multi-drug resistant (and resistant to an assumed list of antimicrobial drug classes).

Objectives

  1. To determine what concept classes will be included in the organism hierarchy.
  2. To determine what model or models can and should be developed for this content.
