IHTSDO NurSIG: ANI: HIMSS Board of Directors has approved the HIMSS Position Statement on Transforming Nursing Practice through Technology Informatics. (collabnet topic id: topc3618)

TitleContentCreated ByDate CreatedForum IDIDProject IDReply To IDStatusTopic ID
IHTSDO NurSIG: ANI: HIMSS Board of Directors has approved the HIMSS Position Statement on Transforming Nursing Practice through Technology Informatics. Greetings ANI Community members, theI am pleased to announce that the HIMSS Board of Directors has approved the HIMSS Position Statement on Transforming Nursing Practice through Technology Informatics.( HIMSS is also an international organziation and a member of the ANI.) As you all know, nurses are key leaders in developing the infrastructure for effective and efficient health information technology that transforms the delivery of care. The landmark report from the Institute of Medicine& Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health Report, determines criteria to transform the nursing profession, leading to new roles and leadership positions for nurses in the redesign of the health care system (this report may be found at http://thefutureofnursing.org/IOM-Report, Though USA-centric, the report may be of interest to all countries as many of the issues are the same). The HIMSS Board of Directors, effective June 17, 2011, has approved the position statement that describes how we must transform nursing practice through technology and informatics. The position statement was developed by leaders from the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Committee, which now represents over 2,900 members, and is intended to not only serve the nursing profession but also the broader healthcare industry and HIMSS membership at large. For your use: · The Position statement: http://www.himss.org/handouts/HIMSSPositionStatementTransformingNursingPracticethroughTechnologyInformatics.pdf · Publication reprint in the Summer issue of JHIM (note HIMSS member access required): http://www.himss.org/ASP/publications_jhim.asp · Press release: http://press.himss.org/article_display.cfm?article_id=5334 jwarrenTue Aug 16 17:38:04 Z 2011forum1350post5126proj1103Atopc3618

IHTSDO NurSIG: Goals for care planning (collabnet topic id: topc2837)

TitleContentCreated ByDate CreatedForum IDIDProject IDReply To IDStatusTopic ID
IHTSDO NurSIG: Goals for care planningIn the UK we are developing guidance and content for implementers af care planning functionality. We are proposing some additions to the current goal achievement findings. The existing international content is shown below: 390800000 Goal achievement finding 390802008 Goal achieved 390801001 Goal not achieved 425372005 Incongruent personal goals The following are suggested as additions to this list, and we would like to invite feedback before submission. We have discussed this with Anne Casey and posting seemed the best way to oconsult with the group. * Goal agreed * Making progress towards goal * Not progressing towards goal * Goal partially achieved * Divergence from goal Please contact me at zac.whitewood-moores@nhs.net if you have any questions or comments. Many thanks.zwhitewoodWed Feb 23 00:13:30 Z 2011forum1350post3795proj1103Atopc2837
Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: Goals for care planningDirect email to me today has suggested Do you also need "goal not agreed" ? I would make sure that the 'progress towards' concepts are constructed consistently, either: Making progress towards goal Not making progress towards goal Or Progressing towards goal Not progressing towards goal Look OK to me otherwise Consequently the currently list of addition requests is likely to be * Goal not agreed * Goal agreed * Progressing towards goal * Not progressing towards goal * Goal partially achieved * Divergence from goal - (wording of this is not universally liked in informal discussions), contributions as to more clear ways to articulate this concept would be welcomed. As would expressions of support?? zwhitewoodThu Feb 24 17:06:56 Z 2011forum1350post3810proj1103post3795Atopc2837
Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: Goals for care planningHi Zac In terms of "divergence from goal", I wonder if "variance from goal" would be a possible suggestion in a similar way to variance from a care pathway? kind regards ElaineewoolerThu Mar 03 11:27:05 Z 2011forum1350post3859proj1103post3810Atopc2837
Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: Goals for care planningThank you Elaine As we have discussed since kindly posting this, "variance" may raise as many issues as it potentially solves, but is likely to be a legitimate addition particularly for those using SNOMED CT in care pathways rather than more traditional care planning. One thing is that variance is a super-type of both not progressing towards goal and the “divergence from goal”. Potentially it could even include the progressing towards goal in some circumstances as variance is often measured against time, whereas many traditional goals are often simply an identified end-point. I have posted to the group to invite any more suggestions and/or comments which would be welcome. Many thanks. zwhitewoodThu Mar 03 18:02:07 Z 2011forum1350post3864proj1103post3859Atopc2837

Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: Goals for care planningAm I correct in understanding this would be a suggested change to the concept model as a linkage concept, rather than relying on the information model? The wording did not seem to match up with a goal status in itself. This is certainly an area that would benefit from consideration as we move to a more outcome measure focused agenda in terms of healthcare delivery. Anne will no doubt update me on her return or feel free to contact me directly off-line to clarify.zwhitewoodMon Apr 11 14:39:56 Z 2011forum1350post4083proj1103post4082Atopc2837

Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: Terms of Reference for SIGsWhilst nursing represent the largest part of the healthcare workforce it often has an under-represented voice at a senior level. The IHTSDO has a specific voice for Nursing in the Nursing Special Interest Group, however there are other much smaller professional groups in healthcare that are not represented formally within the IHTSDO. This paper suggests widening the scope to “Multidisciplinary care SIG” or similar, if retaining Nursing as the focus is considered important perhaps “Nursing and multidisciplinary care SIG”. zwhitewoodWed Dec 19 14:26:05 Z 2012forum1350post7792proj1103post7492Atopc5142

IHTSDO NurSIG: Response from ZacComments on the document for considerationacaseyWed Feb 13 12:56:04 Z 2013forum1350post8098proj1103post8068Atopc5562
Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: Response from ZacFollowing SIG discussion in Feb, I provided the feedback below and the attached annotated document to the consultant terminologist working on this topic. Thanks for all contributions. 1. We would suggest that there is a clear statement of the information requirement that this content is supporting so that we can all assess whether the ‘limitation of scope’ is a real problem or the content just looks limited. That would also help to support advice on how to meet the information need using a good information model rather than further precoordination. 2. The three hierarchies listed in section 3.4 are all problematic and it is not clear that any of them are needed. So we can’t support the proposal that a new model should support modelling the three patterns. Since the content mostly came from the UK it would be appropriate to ask Jeremy Rogers to run a query on how frequently these codes are used in UK systems – to begin to understand the impact of any proposed changes. 3. If any of the content is required, the concept names need to be reviewed for international use: district nurse etc may be specific to one country. IHTSDO member countries need to be surveyed to see if this is a multinational phenomena or content moved to extension. acaseyWed Mar 13 12:01:37 Z 2013forum1350post8334proj1103post8098Atopc5562

Issues related to the context-specific nature of this content (which may not be clearly specified in their FSNs), need addressing . Prioritization needs to be assigned to whether the IHTSDO will take the initiative with respect to implementing updates to content for these terminologies. In 2010 updates to NANDA and PNDS are anticipated. Following discussion at the nursing SIG today, I suggest that we include this topic in issues list. IHTSDO NurSIG: Catheter line cannulaThe Pharmacy SIG responded to our request for a view as follows: We have had a meeting of the SCT Pharmacy SIG by teleconference today and further to discussions in Stockholm are happy to make the following statements on this issue. “Taking the lead from the medical devices work and the collaboration with GMDN the Pharmacy SIG considers that the terms for catheter and cannula are not synonymous when applied to medical devices. There may be some ambiguity around the use of terms describing the associated procedures since a cannula may be used to aid the insertion of a catheter and for this reason the Pharmacy SIG proposes that • Concepts are evaluated on a type by type basis rather than an across the board change. • All interested working groups and stakeholders are given the opportunity to contribute to any proposals for change. “ Comments welcome here - we will discuss at December meeting. Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: Nursing ICNP to SNOMED CT mapping validateHi all, I need to clarify that this mapping validation is for maps between ICNP and SNOMED CT nursing diagnoses, not C-HOBIC. The C-HOBIC project will be presented for confirmation and final approval at the face-to-face meeting on Oct. 6th in Crystal City. There will be a dial in and webex, so those of you who are interested can dial in. I am pleased at the volunteer responses I have received. Please let me know if you are still willing to validate the nursing diagnoses mappings, let me know. I'll send out a doodle next Wednesday. Thanks again. IHTSDO NurSIG: Regimes and therapies cleanup - project 115 (collabnet topic id: topc2865)

TitleContentCreated ByDate CreatedForum IDIDProject IDReply To IDStatusTopic ID
IHTSDO NurSIG: Regimes and therapies cleanup - project 115Dear all I was asked to some initial analysis of problems associated with inconsistencies and other quality issues with the (regime/therapy) sub-hierarchy. The attached paper is the initial findings. The suggested changes appear to be straightforward to achieve, have no identified negative impact and would improve the consistency of this area of the terminology, which would reflect the multidisciplinary way in which healthcare is moving where activities can no longer be associated with specific roles or clinical groups. I see no reason this could not be achieved in a single release cycle and the positive benefits could be significant, particularly in defining more authoritative guidance for the planning and management of care using electronic care planning applications and SNOMED CT. It is commended it to the group.zwhitewoodThu Mar 03 17:19:31 Z 2011forum1350post3863proj1103Atopc2865
Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: Regimes and therapies cleanup - project 115Hi Zac/all I've picked up this item (and a companion topic artf7841 Plans and Regimes) as one of the topics to be explored during the first phase of the IHTSDO 'consultant terminologist' programme. I like the options work and the proposal made here, and would welcome the opportunity to explore the options presented in greater detail over coming months, in particular in the light of the attempt to coordinate the design decision here (regime v. therapy) with similar isssues around regime vs. plans & therapies vs. treatments, along with a desire to characterise the relationship between SNOMED CT content and the developing 13940 suite of ISO standards. Delighted to discuss further Kind regards Ed CheeethamedcheethamFri Apr 08 09:30:43 Z 2011forum1350post4066proj1103post3863Atopc2865

IHTSDO NurSIG: Skin and wound assessment project One of the questions we need to consider is which international professional organisations would be able to give 'authoritative' approval on the proposed content. So far the RCN research has reported: The RCN advises that European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel www.epuap.org/ is main international professional group. Their website lists links to 22 national and international organisations related to wounds. There is a world union of wound healing societies which has issued consensus statements including one on diagnostics and wounds http://www.wuwhs.org/datas/2_1/10/Diagnostic_3M_English_WEB.pdf There are several international professional dermatology associations including International Society of Dermatology http://www.intsocderm.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=1 which also has links to national and international dermatology organisations. It is particularly relevant to those with an interest in healthcare standards, technical aspects of informatics, standardised terminologies, health records, etc. As part of the Terminology Summit transition, the IMIA NI Healthcare Standards Working Group is hosting a series of on-line workshops to further the valuable work of the Summit in providing strategic direction to nursing informatics, with a particular focus on supporting the management of nursing information. The first workshop in the series was led by William Goossen who provided an overview of HL7 standards and the implications for nursing as a stimulus for discussion. The second workshop was led by Anne Casey who provided an overview of two important ISO standards for nursing terminologies and for continuity of care. This third workshop will be led by Peggy White and will provide an overview of C-HOBIC (Canadian Health Outcomes for Better Information and Care). The workshop will be held via GoToMeeting on 4 September 2013 at 19.00 UTC/GMT. Joining instructions are at the foot of this message. We look forward to seeing you online. IHTSDO NurSIG: Announcing the new SNOMED CT® encoded Nursing Problem List Subset is available from the NLM Website (collabnet topic id: topc2960)

TitleContentCreated ByDate CreatedForum IDIDProject IDReply To IDStatusTopic ID
IHTSDO NurSIG: Announcing the new SNOMED CT® encoded Nursing Problem List Subset is available from the NLM WebsiteWe are pleased to Announce the new SNOMED CT® encoded Nursing Problem List Subset is available from the National Library of Medicine for use in Patient Problem Lists, meeting the mandate of Meaningful Use Stage One. The SNOMED CT® encoded Nursing Problem List Subset, intended for use in patients’ problem lists, is an output of the Unified Medical Language System® (UMLS®) Metathesaurus® that is based on nursing diagnosis concepts found within the Metathesaurus. Purpose and use of subset The main purpose of the Nursing Problem List Subset of SNOMED CT® is to facilitate the use of SNOMED CT® as the primary coding terminology for nursing problems used in care planning, problem lists or other summary level clinical documentation. The use of a common list of SNOMED CT® concepts will maximize data interoperability among institutions. Local problem list vocabularies often need to expand to satisfy specific user needs. Institutions that are using their own nursing problem list vocabularies are encouraged to map them to SNOMED CT® with a focus on these nursing diagnosis concepts to facilitate data interoperability. The UMLS Terminology Services (UTS) includes a SNOMED CT browser that may be used for this purpose. The SNOMED CT® Browser is available through the SNOMED CT® menu of the UMLS Terminology Services. You must have a UMLS license to access the list. To obtain a license, free of charge, go to http://www.nlm.nih.gov/databases/umls.html. Additional resources from the UMLS For each SNOMED CT® concept in the subset, the corresponding UMLS CUI (concept unique identifier) is listed. By using these identifiers, users can access resources available in the UMLS e.g., additional synonyms, text definitions for many terms, corresponding codes in other terminologies, etc. The file identifies what we hope is a useful Nursing Problem List Subset of SNOMED CT®, but does not include all the information likely to be required to make effective use of SNOMED CT® in an application, such as synonyms that may include more clinician-friendly terms than the SNOMED CT® fully-specified name. The identifiers in the file can be used to extract more complete information for these concepts from either the UMLS release files or the SNOMED CT® native format files. The file can be found at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/Snomed/nursing_problemlist_subset.html. Feedback and suggestions We welcome any questions, comments or suggestions that would improve the quality, accuracy and usability of the subset. Please send feedback to Vivian Auld, National Library of Medicine (email: auld@nlm.nih.gov). Acknowledgements We thank the IHTSDO, the IHTSDO Nursing Work Group, the IHTSDO Nursing Work Group Problem List Project Team, co-lead by Susan Matney, MSN, FAAN and Judith Warren, PhD, RN, FAAN, FACMI, and the NLM for their participation in and support of this project. smatneySat Apr 09 21:14:55 Z 2011forum1349post4077proj1103Atopc2960

IHTSDO NurSIG: IHTSDO/ICNP Problem Equivalency map validationHi all, The equivalency map from ICNP to SNOMED CT is complete, the new content has been created in SIRS and will go out in the next SNOMED CT release. There are about 500 concepts. The nursing SIG has been asked to validate the mapping, therefore, we are seeking volunteers. If you would like to QA any or all, please respond to this notification. Zac and I can work out the process once we know who can help. Thanks so much. Susan (and Zac)smatneyThu Mar 05 16:33:43 Z 2015forum1349post11033proj1103Atopc7412
Re: IHTSDO NurSIG: IHTSDO/ICNP Problem Equivalency map validationHi all, I need to clarify my previous email. It is the equivalence table for the Nursing Diagnoses which is complete and the content in SNOMED CT was included in the January 2015 release. What will be in the July release is the new interventions related content. We are asking the Mapping SIG to validate the equivalence table for the Nursing Diagnoses at this time. Thanks...SusansmatneyThu Mar 05 18:14:28 Z 2015forum1349post11034proj1103post11033Atopc7412

IHTSDO NurSIG: IMIA NI/TermSum Webinar - Detailed Clinical Models - Dr. William GoossenI have been asked to forward this meeting notification to the Nursling List. Thanks...Susan As part of the Terminology Summit transition, the IMIA NI Healthcare Standards Working Group is hosting a series of on-line workshops to further the valuable work of the Summit in providing strategic direction to nursing informatics, with a particular focus on supporting the management of nursing information. The first workshop in the series was led by William Goossen who provided an overview of HL7 standards and the implications for nursing as a stimulus for discussion. The second workshop was led by Anne Casey who provided an overview of two important ISO standards for nursing terminologies and for continuity of care. The third workshop was led by Peggy White provided an overview of C-HOBIC (Canadian Health Outcomes for Better Information and Care). We are extremely fortunate to have William Goossen back for our fourth webinar. Dr. Goossen will provide an overview of Detailed Clinical Models. Detailed Clinical Models provide a way of organising health information, combining knowledge, specifications for data elements, relationships between data elements, and terminology, into reusable information models. The workshop will be held via GoToMeeting on 6 November 2013 at 19.00 UTC/GMT. Joining instructions are at the foot of this message. We look forward to seeing you online. Attendance is limited and will be on a first-come-first served basis. Access to GoToMeeting has been provided kindly by eHealth Education: www.ehe.edu.au. IHTSDO NurSIG: International Research Priorities for Nursing Informatics and Patient Safety SURVEY (collabnet topic id: topc4558)

TitleContentCreated ByDate CreatedForum IDIDProject IDReply To IDStatusTopic ID
IHTSDO NurSIG: International Research Priorities for Nursing Informatics and Patient Safety SURVEYhttps://www.survey.leeds.ac.uk/priorities_ni The purpose of the survey is to identify the priorities (the most important topics) that the international Nursing Informatics research community should focus on in the next 5-10 years. There are no right or wrong answers. We are interested in your perspectives given your knowledge of nursing and informatics, and what is likely to happen in health care in the future. The results of this survey will be used to refine priority statements, which will then form the basis of another questionnaire. This second questionnaire will be distributed to individuals who volunteer to complete it. Through this process we hope to gain some consensus from the International Nursing Informatics community on the key research priority areas for the next 5-10 years. If you are interested in being a volunteer for the next stage of this research, please fill in your contact details at the end of this survey. If you do not complete your contact details, we will not contact you again. Please note that all responses to the questionnaire are confidential and your name and contact details, should you volunteer for the next stage, will not be linked to your answers. The results from this study will be published and disseminated to the Nursing Informatics community. zwhitewoodWed May 16 16:30:07 Z 2012forum1349post6660proj1103Atopc4558
