Generally desired features of naming conventions:

  1. The convention should be consistent and reproducible.
  2. The convention should follow "natural" language when possible.
  3. The meaning of phrases generated by the convention should be unambiguous to users and across linguistic barriers for translation purposes.
  4. Conventions should not attempt to address needs for variations based on word order preferences (e.g. for searching or display).

The creation of multiple word order variants for these purposes is considered outside the scope of the International Release of SNOMED CT.
